Who We Are
Ready to Work (RTW) became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2024, strengthening its mission to equip both high school graduates going directly to the workforce and adults re-entering the workforce, particularly in communities with low labor-force participation, with paid industry-aligned training, career pathways, and high-impact workforce development opportunities.
While the adult program launched in late 2023, RTW has spent the past nine years empowering thousands of high school students across Alabama to earn nationally recognized career-readiness credentials and transition directly into the workforce upon graduation.
What began as a collaborative effort at Central High School in Tuscaloosa—where a passionate principal sought to prevent graduating seniors from falling through the cracks—has since evolved into a statewide movement. Ōnin, in partnership with local employers, educators, and workforce agencies, helped form the original employer network that laid the foundation for today’s RTW model.

Adult RTW Outcomes
Since launching the adult program, RTW has a 90% completion rate. Seventy percent of these graduates successfully entered the workforce, supported by more than 30 engaged employer partners and growing. These partners not only participate in training and interviews but also co-host hiring events—demonstrating the model’s effectiveness in preparing adults with the skills and employer connections needed to transition into sustainable employment.
High School RTW Outcomes
In the past three years alone over 1000 high school students have completed the RTW program. Of those, 40% entered the workforce immediately after graduation, and 20% secured positions with RTW employer partners. With support from more than 100 employer partners, RTW has facilitated over 150 industry tours and exposure events. These efforts continue to build students’ social capital, strengthen career readiness, and provide early access to high-demand career pathways.
